Kaytek the Wizard Puppet Show

kaytek00.jpg

The Arts at Center Street hosts Brian Hull's puppet show adaptation of "Kaytek the Wizard," the 1933 children's book written by Polish author Janusz Korczak!

Kaytek, a mischievous schoolboy who wants to become a wizard, is surprised to discover that he is able to perform magic spells and change reality. He begins to lead a double life: a powerful wizard in the dress of an ordinary boy. Revolving around the notion that power is not without responsibility, nor without repercussions, this story speaks to every child's dream of freeing themselves from the endless control of adults, and shaping the world to their own designs.

This program is limited to children ages 9 and above, and younger children or babies will not be admitted to the theater.

The show is from 4:30-5:30pm. Doors open at 4:00pm. Tickets are free. You must have a ticket to attend the show.

BREATHE, A New Musical

There is a tension between advancing a career and making time for the people you love. No matter how gifted someone thinks they are, or how successful they’ve been at overcoming limitations, everyone has to confront the power of death and the constraints of time. BREATHE is the story about a gifted doctor’s ambition to save those he loves by overcoming the limitations set in place by the administrative powers bent on making money, while coming to the sobering realization that he can’t save everyone. Can he confront the power of death and the constraints of time, surrendering his ambitions to be present with those he loves? Or will he risk losing those last moments with them in order to work and maybe, save them from dying?
__________________________________________________________________
BREATHE, A New Musical, opens March 2 and closes March 12. There are 10 available show times. This is a family-friendly musical. We recommend that only children ages 5 and above attend.

The show is approximately 3 hours in length, with a 10-minute intermission.

Tickets are $15 general admission, and $12 for seniors and students.

"Mental": An Arts at Center Street Original Production

Mental examines the functional dysfunctionality of the human experience, and the ways in which people choose to navigate life’s turbulence.

After her divorce, 40-year old Amy Clark-Reed returned home to her religious, medicated mother Ellie, who has a history of running off without notice. Lately, anytime Mom runs off, Amy and her siblings get together for a meal and wait for the cops to bring her home. The play joins the Clark siblings for 12 hours at the house where they grew up, in a small town on the outskirts of wine country in Northern California.

Mental is the newest play from writer and director, Gregg D. Garner, whose most recent work “ALIEN: The Musical,” was performed at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC), and reprised for the Chancellor of Vanderbilt and his lecture series at the Martha Rivers Ingram Center for the Performing Arts. The musical received critical acclaim, including “Most Outstanding Original Play/Musical” from renowned Nashville critic, Jeffrey Ellis in 2016.
